CHENNAI: A 31-year-old history-sheeter from Retteri was beheaded allegedly by his former lover and her husband. After the arrest of five persons, including the woman, her husband and three others, police found the man’s torso but have not yet managed to trace his head.

The deceased, Suresh alias ‘Crime’ Suresh, an autorickaw driver, had several cases including murder charges pending against him at Korattur police station.

Suresh had left home for work on October 14 but did not return. His mother Kala searched for him for four days and then lodged a complaint at Korattur police station on Friday. Police registered a man missing case and launched a hunt.

The investigation led to the detention of Jeyakodi (34) and his wife Karthika (31) of Padi on suspicion, as Suresh was said to have quarrelled with her on the day he went missing. Jeyakodi is

a jewellery shop supervisor, while Karthika runs an eatery near a Tasmac shop in Padi.

According to police, Suresh visited Karthika’s eatery often and developed a relationship with her. Later, she wanted to end the affair but Suresh began harassing her. On the day he went missing, he had allegedly quarrelled with her at the eatery and also went to her house and fought with her.

Unable to handle his harassment, she informed her husband Jeyakodi, who took his friends Sundar, Manivannan and Raja to meet and warn Suresh. However, it escalated into a fight and the men allegedly assaulted Suresh and took him in a car to Gnayaru village near Sholavaram, where they hacked and beheaded him. After throwing the body into the bushes, the gang returned to Chennai.

Based on their confession, police retrieved Suresh’s body from the village on Sunday, but his head could not be traced. Suresh’s wife and mother identified the body, police said.

Jeyakodi was booked under Sections 120B (criminal conspiracy), 147 (rioting), 201 (Causing disappearance of evidence of offence), 302 (murder) and 364 (abduction with the intent to murder) of IPC, and was remanded on Sunday. On Monday, the other four suspects, including Karthika, were detained. They are expected to be send to judicial remand on Tuesday.
