Brothers, including juvenile, held for robbery in Teynampet

CHENNAI: The Teynampet police have arrested two siblings, including a juvenile, for attacking a college student and robbing him of mobile phone and cash. The accused were identified as E Gopi Krishnan (19) of Teynampet and his younger brother.

The duo intercepte­d a two-wheeler on KB Dasan road on Monday night and threatened the riders, M Anandan (18), a BCom student, and his brother, to part with valuables. When they refused, the brothers attacked him and escaped with his mobile phone and cash. Based on Anandan’s complaint, inspector Vijayakuma­r registered a case and nabbed the suspects. Gopi was remanded in judicial custody, while the minor was sent to a juvenile home.

15 sovereigns seized

Meanwhile, Mangadu police have arrested a 19-year-old burglar nearly two months after he struck a house and escaped with 30 sovereigns. Police also recovered 15 sovereigns from the accused, identified R Prabakaran of Kundrathur. The incident happened in August when the victim, Deepak, left his house open as his father had to be rushed to the hospital for an emergency. Inspector Chittbabu cracked the case with the help of the CCTV footage and the accused was remanded on Tuesday.

Phone thieves held

Similarly, two men were arrested by Chetpet and Velachery police for stealing mobile phones. K Vinayakamo­orthy (23) of Choolaimed­u stole a mobile phone from the house of Y Ameen Bhai (37) in Shenoy Nagar on Sunday and was secured on Monday. Two mobile phones were seized from him. Velachery police arrested M Ramesh (22) of Perungudi who stole a mobile phone from H Venkatesan (23) at a restaurant in Velachery in July.
