Odisha woman quits job and sells ganja, nabbed

CHENNAI: The police have arrested an Odisha woman and seized 1.5 kg of ganja from her house near Medavakkam on Wednesday. She was identified as Binny Bihira (31), a constructi­on worker, staying at a rented house in Medavakkam.

Binny stopped going to work for the last few months. After that, many constructi­on workers and students started visiting her house frequently. The public on suspicion informed the police.

Following this, the police monitored her and confirmed that she was selling ganja. They surrounded the house on Wednesday evening and arrested her. Binny found that many people buy ganja every day, left her job and started selling ganja smuggled from Andhra Pradesh, said the police. The police have registered a case and are investigat­ing.

Minor among four arrested for ganja peddling

The Avadi police have arrested four persons including a juvenile and seized 2.2 kg ganja from them. The accused were identified as Purushotha­man (18) and Poonjolai (33) of Sekkadu, Sivasankar (26) of Avadi and a juvenile. Purushotha­man and the juvenile were secured near Meenakshi theatre on Wednesday night and 1.1 kg of ganja was seized from them. Based on their inputs, Poonjolai and Sivasankar were secured and another 1.1 kg of ganja was seized. Except the juvenile, the other three men were remanded in judicial custody. The juvenile was sent to observatio­n home.
