Ravikumar seeks equality villages across nation
CHENNAI: VCK general secretary and Villupuram MP D Ravikumar on Thursday demanded the Union government to implement the Samathuvapuram project across the country.
“Former chief minister M Karunanidhi created a unique scheme called Samathuvapuram in which model habitations were established with government fund in rural areas in which all the communities live in unity and brotherhood. All the amenities are shared between them without any discrimination,” said Ravi Kumar, while delivering his speech in Lok Sabha.
He also said that in each Samathuvapuram there are 100 houses out of which 40 is for Dalits, 25 each for backward and most backward castes and 10 is for other communities. To avoid any discrimination Samathuvapurams have only one community hall and a burial ground for all the castes. “It is an important model to end caste discrimination and to establish social justice. I earnestly request the Centre to replicate this model in other parts of our country,” he said.
