Fake cop carrying out vehicle check to extract money arrested in Erode
COIMBATORE: A fake cop, who conducted vehicle check and extracted money from riders found without helmet and proper documents, was arrested by police in Erode district on Thursday. The police said the accused Karunanidhi, 40 from Pon Nagar, near Mettur in Salem, was carrying out a vehicle check by wearing a khaki shirt on three road area near Bhavani in Erode. “While carrying out vehicle checks, he had also stopped a cop going through the way in civil dress for a check. On suspicion, the original cop informed the Bhavani police station and a team led by sub-inspector Vadivel Kumar immediately rushed to the spot and took Karunanidhi into custody,” the police said. Inquiries by the police revealed that the accused was working in the Home Guards Department. He had resorted to the fraud to make some quick buck.
