RPF constable run over by train during patrol duty at Mayiladuthurai

NAGAPATTINAM: A 48-year-old Railway Protection Force (RPF) constable died after being hit by a train at Mayiladuthurai here on Thursday. Police said the deceased S R Baasham, attached to Tiruvannamalai post, was deployed for track patrol duty between Mayiladuthurai and Sirkazhi stretch following complaints over theft of electrical equipment. The overhead electrification works were currently underway on the stretch. The mutilated body of Baasham was found on the track by the field-level railway personnel. The Government Railway Police rushed to the spot and removed the body to Mayiladuthurai Government Hospital morgue for post-mortem. Further investigations are on.
