Centre identifies 11 districts in TN for development
TIRUCHY: The Centre has introduced a 15-point project for the development of the people under all category and as many as 11 districts from Tamil Nadu have been listed out under infrastructure development project, George Kurian, vice-chairperson of the commission, has said.
Speaking to reporters in Pudukkottai, Kurian said the Centre has decided to develop the infrastructure facilities for the minorities. As many as 309 districts across the nation have been listed out in the beneficiaries list while 11 districts, including Vellore, Karur, Perambalur, Pudukkottai, Nagapattinam, are included in the TN beneficiaries’ list.
The project would support the infrastructure development of schools, polytechnics,
ITIs, Health Centres, Community Halls and commercial complexes would be established and a fund of Rs 1,000 crore has been allocated for the purpose.
Similarly, the Centre has been distributing scholarships for the minority students since 2006. The scholarships were distributed to the minority students from their primary classes to research. The senior-level researchers would be given a scholarship of Rs 28,000 per month while the junior-level researchers would be given Rs 25,000 per month.
George Kurian also said that the state and the Centre have been supporting the minorities with various projects. “The people should be made aware of these projects and it is the duty of the officials to let the people aware of these programmes,” he said.
