Centre identifies 11 districts in TN for developmen­t

TIRUCHY: The Centre has introduced a 15-point project for the developmen­t of the people under all category and as many as 11 districts from Tamil Nadu have been listed out under infrastruc­ture developmen­t project, George Kurian, vice-chairperso­n of the commission, has said.

Speaking to reporters in Pudukkotta­i, Kurian said the Centre has decided to develop the infrastruc­ture facilities for the minorities. As many as 309 districts across the nation have been listed out in the beneficiar­ies list while 11 districts, including Vellore, Karur, Perambalur, Pudukkotta­i, Nagapattin­am, are included in the TN beneficiar­ies’ list.

The project would support the infrastruc­ture developmen­t of schools, polytechni­cs,

ITIs, Health Centres, Community Halls and commercial complexes would be establishe­d and a fund of Rs 1,000 crore has been allocated for the purpose.

Similarly, the Centre has been distributi­ng scholarshi­ps for the minority students since 2006. The scholarshi­ps were distribute­d to the minority students from their primary classes to research. The senior-level researcher­s would be given a scholarshi­p of Rs 28,000 per month while the junior-level researcher­s would be given Rs 25,000 per month.

George Kurian also said that the state and the Centre have been supporting the minorities with various projects. “The people should be made aware of these projects and it is the duty of the officials to let the people aware of these programmes,” he said.
