CFC urges fans to get behind team during tough time

-

CHENNAI: Going through a tough phase, Chennaiyin FC players urged the local fans to get behind the team for the remainder of the Indian Super League (ISL) 2019-20 season.

In the sixth edition of the top-flight competition, CFC sits at the bottom of the table with just a solitary point from its first four fixtures. Having finished at the foot of the standings in the previous season, Chennaiyin has seen more lows than highs in the last 12 months. And, the current squad members believe the side could roar back with the backing of the aficionados.

“Everybody makes mistakes. But the first step to correcting them is learning from them. Your support is our lifeline, it motivates us every day,” said Maltese forward Andre Schembri in an emotional post shared by the club on its social media pages. The video has garnered a lot of attention online, with people from various walks of life showering their love for CFC.

Besides Chennaiyin co-owner Abhishek Bachchan, actor R Madhavan, ace paddler Sharath Kamal Achanta and international cricketer Vijay Shankar have extended their support to the club during this painful period. The versatile Masih Saighani, who also features in the video, assured CFC would keep its nose to grindstone.

“Football is everything for me. Nobody wants to lose. The only promise we make to you is that we will work harder,” expressed Masih, who can operate both in defence and midfield. Romanian Dragos Firtulescu wanted the entire

Chennaiyin community to be tightly knit in this challenging situation.

“Everybody wants to win. But the real victory is coming together in tough times.” Experienced custodian Karanjit Singh, who has doubled up as the goalkeeping coach this time around, chipped in, saying: “Every day is a new day for a footballer. Support comes easy when we are winning. But we need it the most when we are down.”

Tickets go on sale Tickets for Chennaiyin FC’s home matches against Hyderabad FC (November 25) and Odisha FC (November 28) are now available on Book My Show app and the club’s official website.
