SI among seven killed in separate accidents in Tirupur and Erode dists

COIMBATORE: Seven persons, including a sub-inspector of police, were killed and two others injured in two separate accidents in Tirupur and Erode districts on Monday. Police said Mohan, 50, his wife Kavitha, 42, and their son Barath, 24, and Mohan’s brother Loganathan, 47, and his son Amarnath, 11, were returning to Erode from Tirupur in a car after attending a marriage function in Sulur, when the mishap happened. The police said Loganathan, who was driving the car, lost control and rammed the median at Valasupala­yam, near Perumanall­ur, in Tirupur district. In the impact of the mishap, Mohan, his son Barath and brother Loganathan died on the spot. Two others Kavitha and Amarnath were admitted in a private hospital in Tirupur and then taken to Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital for further treatment. In another incident, a sub-inspector and his family were killed after a lorry collided with their car in Erode district in the evening. The police said Selvam, 39, SI with Tamil Nadu Special Task Force, near Sathyamang­alam in Erode, his wife Devibala, 38, and their one-year-old baby Janani were going in a car to Vadavalli along with one Murugesan, 26, a daily wager seated in the back seat, when the incident happened. A goods-laden lorry bound for Sathyamang­alam from Karnataka rammed their car killing all the four persons on the spot. The bodies of the deceased persons were sent for a post-mortem at the government hospital. A search is on to nab the absconding lorry driver.
