Cong attacks BJP, asks who benefited most from strike

- VS CHANDRASEKAR

NEW DELHI: As the nation marked the first anniversary of the Pulwama terror attack in which 40 CRPF lost their lives, Rahul Gandhi and his party Congress attacked the Modi government raising the question who “benefited” the most from the incident.

This invited a strong reaction from the BJP whose leaders said the Congress cannot think “beyond benefits” even in a terror crime. In a tweet, Gandhi paid tribute to Pulwama martyrs and asked about the outcome of inquiry ordered and who all in the government have been held accountable for security lapses.

“Today as we remember our 40 CRPF martyrs in the #PulwamaAttack, let us ask: Who benefitted the most from the attack? What is the outcome of the inquiry into the attack? Who in the BJP Govt has yet been held accountable for the security lapses that allowed the attack?” Gandhi asked on Twitter. His party spokesperson Jaiveer Shergill told the media at his party headquarters that it is a wellknown fact that Pakistan was behind Pulwama attack but “it is a wellkept secret by the BJP how come such a massive intelligence failure happened on the soil of India leading to Pulwama attack.”

NIA’s painstaking probe reaches dead end

The probe into last year’s Pulwama terror strike that left 40 CRPF personnel dead has virtually reached a dead end with five persons, who were either conspirators or executers of the ghastly attack, being eliminated by security forces in various encounters. However, the case threw unique challenges for the NIA, the anti-terror probe agency formed in the aftermath of the Mumbai terror strikes in 2008, as it there is no solid information about the perpetrators or the mastermind behind the attack. “It was a blind case for us. There were lot of murmurs but everything needs to be established beyond doubt in the court of law,” a senior official, who is part of the probe, said.
