COVID recovery rate improves to 40.32 per cent

NEW DELHI: India continued to record a high-level of fresh Covid19 cases registerin­g 5,609 cases in the last 24 hours, two less than on Wednesday, as the total number of cases shot up to 1,12,359.

Health Ministry data showed that a total of 45,299 patients were cured of COVID-19 and 3,002 since last 24 hours. “The recovery rate is improving continuous­ly and is 40.32 per cent at present. India currently has 63,624 active cases. Of the active cases, only approximat­ely 2.94 per cent of the cases are in ICU.The case mortality rate in India is 3.06 per cent, which is much less in comparison to the global case mortality rate of 6.65 per cent,” a health ministry release said.

It said an analysis of the deaths indicates 64 per cent deaths in males and 36 per cent in females. In terms of age distributi­on, 0.5 per cent deaths are reported in less than 15 years age group, 2.5 per cent in 15-30 years age group, 11.4 per cent in 30-45 years age group, 35.1 per cent in 45-60 years age group and 50.5 per cent in people above 60 years. Further, 73 per cent of the death cases had underlying co-morbiditie­s.

Ahmedabad hospital reports highest deaths in Gujarat

Nearly 50 per cent of the total coronaviru­s infection deaths in Gujarat so far have been reported from the Ahmedabad civil hospital, earning it the dubious distinctio­n of being the ‘’COVID-19 graveyard’’.

Out of the total 749 COVID-19 deaths reported across Gujarat so far, as many as 351 patients succumbed to the disease in the Ahmedabad civil hospital in Aswara area.
