CM green-lights salons in TN, ban in city continues

-

CHENNAI: Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Saturday announced that the salons and parlours located outside the containment areas can start working from Sunday with strict social distancing norms. The shops can remain open from 7 am to 7 pm, however, the ban on salons in Chennai police limits will continue.

In a statement, Chief Minister Palaniswami said salons and parlours cannot engage employees living in containment zones and air conditioners should not be used. The hairdressing salons and parlours should be sanitised five times in a day and hand sanitisers should be provided to all customers.

The customers and employees should strictly adhere to social distancing norms and no public should be allowed entry if they have symptoms like fever, cold and cough, said the statement.

The staff and the customers should ensure the wearing of masks and soaps should be provided for staff to frequently wash their hands. The statement also noted that the government had earlier allowed salons in rural areas to operate from May 19.

Though steps are being taken to revive the economy and curtail the virus outbreak, there are COVID-19 clusters in some pockets as the public do not take up government advisories related to the virus, the CM said in another statement adding that the lockdown norms are being eased and the situation will be reviewed with health and expert committees formed to address the crisis.

Earlier in the day, Chief Secretary K Shanmugham conducted a review meeting with top officials to oversee the incidence of coronavirus spread in Chennai. Commissioner of disaster management J Radhakrishnan, DGP JK Tripathy and Health Secretary Beela Rajesh took part in the meeting at the secretariat.
