CHENNAI: With the State government relaxing lockdown norms gradually, the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) and Teachers Recruitment Board (TRB) have decided to conduct exams and recruitment processes that have been pending since the outbreak of the pandemic.

The lockdown had forced TNPSC and TRB to put on hold more than 10 major exams since April, including the Teachers’ Eligibility Test (TET) that was scheduled in June.

However, after the National Testing Agency managed to conduct nation-wise tests like NEET and JEE recently, both TNPSC and TRB are gearing up to conduct pending exams and appointment activities. A senior official from

TRB told DT Next on Tuesday that the exams that have been pending included the ones to recruit lecturers in government polytechnic colleges, appointment PG assistants and secondary grade assistants in government schools and to the post of BT assistants.

“We are also looking at the possibility of conducting TET, which is the major exam with more than six lakh candidates appearing, by the end of the year itself. A detailed discussion will soon be held with the School Education Department in this regard,” he said. Also, appointments of block educational officers in the Elementary Education department, assistant professors in government arts and science colleges and direct recruitment of computer instructors would also be completed soon, he added.

A senior official from TNPSC said the commission was able to conduct only five of the more than ten exams that were lined up this year till October. “It has been decided to conduct the main written examination for the post of civil judge in Tamil Nadu State Judicial Service by mid-October,” he added. According to him, exams for appointing Assistant Director of Industries and Commerce, and Assistant Superintendent in Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises departments, which were scheduled to be held on April 25 and April 26 respectively, would also be conducted soon. “We have also released the notification to conduct the half-yearly exam for IAS, IPS, IFS, officers from October 5 to October 20,” the official added.
