Hon­est po­lice­man re­turns Rs 2.30 lakh to owner of lorry in­volved in accident

A cop proved that hon­esty among police was not dead as he found more than Rs 2 lakh in a ve­hi­cle which was in­volved in an accident. He re­trieved the money and handed it over to the ve­hi­cle owner in Nemili police lim­its in Ranipet district’s Arakkonam sub-di­vi­sion on Mon­day evening. The is­sue re­lates to an accident in­volv­ing a lorry and a two wheeler near the Man­jam­badi rail­way gate re­sult­ing in one death and in­juries to an­other. The lorry driver aban­doned the ve­hi­cle and es­caped af­ter the accident fear­ing be­ing lynched by the lo­cals. Con­sta­ble Man­ju­nathan en­sured that the injured were rushed to the hospi­tal and then when he was check­ing the lorry, he found Rs 2.39 lakh in the ve­hi­cle’s cabin. He im­me­di­ately con­tacted the owner and when the lat­ter turned up, he handed over the money to him. The con­sta­ble was praised for his hon­esty and has been promised a re­ward.
