CHENNAI: The National Investigation Agency on Wednesday arrested a business analyst working at a private bank in Chennai along with a Bengaluru-based rice merchant in connection with an IS module functioning in Bengaluru.
Ahamed Abdul Cader (40), a native of Ramnad who worked at a bank here, and Irfan Nasir (33), a resident of Frazer Town in Bengaluru were arrested after NIA obtained incriminating documents regarding an IS-module in Karnataka during the investigation of an IS-Khorasan province case in Delhi, a release stated. The fresh case was registered suo-moto by NIA on September 19 under various IPC sections and UA (P) Act against the accused.
“Abdul Cader worked in a private bank before lockdown and during lockdown, he began WFH for another private bank in Chennai but shifted to Bengaluru,” an NIA source said.
According to the NIA, the interrogation of an accused in the Delhi-based IS module case,
Dr Abdur Rahman alias Dr Brave from Bengaluru revealed the names of his associates who had travelled to Syria during 2013-2014 to join the IS.
Further investigation resulted in busting of the module when NIA found that Ahamed Abdul Cader, Irfan Nasir and their associates were members of Hizb-ut-Tehrir, and had formed a group called ‘Quran Circle’ which radicalised Muslim youth in Bengaluru and funded their visit to the conflict zone in Syria to aid and assist IS terrorists. According to the release, Cader, Nasir and their associates played a very significant role in the radicalisation of the members of the group and arranged funds through donations and own sources for visit of the accused Dr Abdur Rahman and other Muslim youth from Bengaluru to Syria, two of whom got killed.
Searches were conducted at the residence of Cader & Nasir in Gurupana Palaya and Frazer Town in Bengaluru on Wednesday which resulted in the seizure of the incriminating documents.
