State records 5,242 new cases, re­cov­er­ies near­ing 6 lakh mark


CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu recorded a to­tal of 5,242 cases of COVID-19 on Satur­day, in­clud­ing eight im­ported cases from other states. The to­tal num­ber of COVID-19 cases in the State now stands at 6,51,370.

As many as 1,272 cases of COVID-19 were re­ported in Chennai, tak­ing the to­tal num­ber of ac­tive cases in the city to 13,577. Thus, the to­tal num­ber of cases in Chennai stands at 1,80,751. Coim­bat­ore recorded 392 cases, while 339 cases were re­ported in Salem. Among other dis­tricts, 309 cases were re­ported in Chen­gal­pattu and 199 cases in Tiru­val­lur.

A to­tal of 67 more deaths were re­ported due to COVID-19 in the State, in­clud­ing 31 deaths in pri­vate hos­pi­tals and 36 in gov­ern­ment hos­pi­tals. The to­tal num­ber of deaths due to COVID-19 in the State has reached to 10,187. Of the deaths re­ported on Satur­day, as many as 65 de­ceased had sev­eral un­der­ly­ing co­mor­bid con­di­tions.

The to­tal num­ber of re­cov­er­ies in the State are near­ing six lakh as 5,222 more peo­ple were dis­charged from sev­eral hos­pi­tals. So far, as many as 5,97,033 peo­ple have re­cov­ered in the State.

With one more pri­vate lab­o­ra­tory, Genelife Molec­u­lar Lab­o­ra­tory in Kr­ish­na­giri, be­ing ap­proved for COVID-19 test­ing by the State Health de­part­ment, the to­tal num­ber of test­ing fa­cil­i­ties in Tamil Nadu has reached 191.
