Parthiban, a young man with a dream of making it big in Kollywood five years go, is now earning a living as an electrician. Occasionally he turns into a free law consultant to help people who can’t afford to hire lawyers. Experience is his teacher.
Five years ago, after falling in love with a Keralite girl settled in Chennai, Parthiban of Thiruverkadu had married her against the wishes of her family. “My friends and family supported me. We both were major. We lived for more than seven months together. In between my wife’s family established contact with us. They acted as if they were friendly with us and one day she was invited to her house. She went and never returned. All their phones were switched off. I went to her house, she was locked in a room. Her father and sister’s husband assaulted me as if they were beating up a mad dog. I approached Pallikaranai police and lodged a complaint. Nothing happened.
Later I found that my wife’s father was acting as per the advice from the local police inspector,” he recalled.
Repeated complaints with higher authorities did not yield any result. Police tactfully made sure that my wife was separated from me. I have never met my wife after that. I was told that they married her off to somebody else, while I am still fighting for the FIR through applications under Right to Information (RTI) Act.
The police officers stationed at Pallikaranai station now claim that there was an FIR, but court concerned has said — in reply to an
RTI query — that they don’t have any record of such an FIR.
