Two women die as MTC bus rams into two-wheeler
CHENNAI: Two women died in an accident after a government MTC bus rammed into their two-wheeler near Selaiyur on Thursday.
The deceased were identified as Mary Roslin (25) of Perungalathur and her friend Kalaivani (22) of Naduveerapattu, both working in a private firm in Adambakkam. On Thursday night, the duo was returning home on a scooter when on Velachery-Tambaram road near Selaiyur, an MTC bus rammed into their scooter from behind. In the impact, both fell and got run over by the rear wheels of the same bus, dying on the spot.
The public who gathered at the spot began to attack bus driver Shankar, but he managed to escape and got surrendered at Selaiyur police station. The Chromepet traffic police retrieved the bodies and sent them for post-mortem to Chromepet Government Hospital. The police have registered a case.
The local residents claimed that since the road is very narrow, accidents are happening frequently. They also demanded steps to make the road wider.
