TTV, AMMK cadre bid tearful adieu to Vetrivel
“I won the RK Nagar Assembly constituency because of a grounded politician like P Vetrivel. Though he lost his MLA seat due to the political ploy of those in AIADMK, he stood by the justice and loyalty. Retrieval of AIADMK and the defeat of DMK at the hands of AMMK will be the fitting reply for sacrifices made by the deceased party treasurer Vetrivel,” AMMK general secretary TTV Dhinakaran said in an emotional letter to AMMK cadres. Earlier in the day Dhinakaran paid floral tributes to Vetrivel at AMMK headquarters. Vetrivel died due to COVID-19 complications and the AMMK workers in Chennai thronged his residence in North Chennai to pay their homage.
More than 1,000 workers of AMMK paid their respect to the departed two-time MLA the mortal remains of AMMK leader was taken in a procession by the AMMK workers to the Otteri burial ground. Meanwhile, to avoid crowding, homage was paid at three different locations,
AMMK party headquarters, then the Porur Ramachandra Hospital premises and at his residence in Kilpauk. Public health officials cordoned off the residence of Vetrivel and the wrapped body was kept in a see through mortuary van to pay homage. With a few family members of Vetrivel also testing positive, public were denied entry to console the bereaving family. Former deputy mayor Karate R Thiagarajan, who is also a long-time friend of Vetrivel paid rich tributes on Twitter.
