BJP launching attack on various fronts: CPM leader

-

CHENNAI: The BJP government at the Centre has been launching a series of attacks on various fronts, including secularism, social justice, federalism, people’s rights and democracy, in its last years of rule alleged CPM politburo member G Ramakrishnan.

Hoisting the party flag to mark the conclusion of the year-long celebration of the centenary of the formation of the Communist Party of India, Ramakrishnan said that the BJP government has been attacking the Constitution and misusing the constitutional institutions like Election Commission, Enforcement Directorate and CBI for its political agenda. He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi equates Ram Temple agitation to the freedom struggle when he laid the foundation stone for the construction of the temple at Ayodhya on August 5. “It is an attempt to impose Hindutva,” he said.

“BJP government is working to destroy secularism and deprive people of their rights. During the COVID-19 lockdown, the government neither attempted to prevent the spread of the infection nor steps to help the affected people,” he said. To a query on the State Higher Education Minister, KP Anbalagan, stated that there was no need for the Institute of Eminence status to the Anna University, he said the minister has made the statement after the university Vice-Chancellor’s letter to the Centre evoked strong criticism from the Opposition parties. “At least now the Minister has condemned the V-C for writing the letter without the knowledge of the State government,” he said. He added that the IOE status would be used to hike fees and deny reservation benefits for the students.
