‘Urgent need to develop new investigat­ive tools and tech’

CHENNAI: There is an urgent need to develop new-age crime-related investigat­ive tools and technologi­es in the country, Additional Director-General of Police (ADGP) M Ravi has said.

Participat­ing in a national-level virtual conclave on cyber policing and best practices, conducted by the Centre for Research on Cyber Intelligen­ce and Digital Forensic, Ravi, now heading the TN STF, highlighte­d the government initiative­s on combating cybercrime­s against women and children and its successful implementa­tion in Tamil Nadu.

Tiruchy Range DIG Annie Vijaya gave a presentati­on on evidence-based policing at the national conclave. National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) Director-General SN Pradhan inaugurate­d the conclave.

The panellists at the meet discussed various cybercrime­s taking place in the country, the mechanism adopted in dealing with them and also other various modes the fraudsters are likely to adopt for cybercrime­s in future and the mechanism or strategies required to deal with such crimes.

The three-day virtual conclave, aimed at improving cyber services in the policing, was jointly organised by CRCIDF with the theme ‘Promoting the reactive, proactive and predictive policing standards’.

Over 50 senior IPS officers, scientists, domain experts took part in the panel discussion­s and live demos at the event, while over 2,000 officials from across the country watched the event live, said a release.
