Don’t let 7.5% quota bill to be in abeyance like NEET exemption, Stalin tells CM
CHENNAI: DMK president MK Stalin on Monday asked Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami not to allow the Bill providing 7.5 per cent reservation for government school students in medical admission to be watered down like he did to legislation seeking exemption for the state from NEET.
Remarking that the delay by the Governor in giving his assent to the Bill providing for 7.5 per cent reservation to government school students in medical admission and the silence of the Chief Minister on the delay amounted to betrayal of students, Stalin said and urged the CM not allow the reservation Bill to be watered down like he did to the earlier legislation seeking exemption for TN from NEET by making a secret pact with the BJP-led Centre and Governor.
Stalin also asked Governor Banwarilal Purohit to immediately approve the 7.5 per cent reservation Bill in the backdrop of release of NEET results.
On Sunday, Stalin had condemned the ruling BJP for its stand against providing reservation for government hospital doctors in PG super specialty courses.
In a message a posted on his official Twitter handle late on Sunday, Stalin tagged Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan and said, “I strongly condemn the Centre’s stance against providing reservation for government doctors in PG super specialty courses, disregarding their selfless service.” “@CMOTamilNadu should stand against Centre’s imposition and restore the state’s power and autonomy.”
Earlier, Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president KS Alagiri, who made a similar request to the Governor, warned of drastic consequences if he continued to delay his assent to the Bill, which could save the state students from NEET. Both DMK and Congress have been accusing the BJP of attempting to undermine social justice and deny reservation to OBCs and SC/STs ever since the party came to power in 2014.
