CM seeks people’s support to make Pondy COVID-free

-

Chief Minister V Narayanasamy on Friday appealed to the people to cooperate with the government to make Union Territory of Puducherry COVID-free.

In a virtual press conference, he said that due to the efforts taken by the government and health department, the number of active cases came down in the Union Territory. All those patients admitted to the private medical colleges were discharged except one undergoing treatment in Manakula Vinayagar Medical college, he said.

Cautioning the people that there could be another wave, Narayanasamy exhorted them to follow the guidelines.

He said people should adhere to the direction that not more than 200 people should gather for a marriage and added that action would be initiated against the marriage halls which violates it and also against the shops which fail to maintain social distancing.

The Chief Minister said the teachers of the government aided private schools were not paid their salary for the last 11 months and Lt. Governor Kiran Bedi had returned the file. He had put up a file to disburse at least six months salary to them and expressed hope that the Lt Governor will sanction this.

Pointing out that Bedi is not permitting to waive the road tax for tourist vehicles for the lockdown period and the subsequent agitation by the vehicle owners, Narayanasamy said that the Lt Governor should understand the problems and change herself.

It is not the duty of a Lt Governor to intervene into all affairs, he said and added that she was being wrongly directed by those associated with her.
