Gang of 5 robs couple at Gummidipoondi
CHENNAI: In a daring incident, a five-member gang entered a house in Gummidipoondi and robbed valuables before escaping in the victims’ car on Sunday night. They also questioned the couple why they did not keep expensive items in such a big house.
The incident happened around 8 pm when the victims -- Ekambaram (59), a farmer, and his wife Kasiammal (52) -- were in the ground floor of their house in Dasildharmedu village near Gummidipoondi, while their son was asleep in a room on the first floor.
Five men who entered the house with weapons took the couple to a room and tied them to chairs. The gang searched the house and managed to take 1 kg silver articles, 15 silk sarees and two mobile phones.
Unsatisfied with their loot, one of the five men allegedly questioned the couple why they did not keep expensive items like gold in such a big house and threatened them to part with Rs 5 lakh to leave them alive.
When the couple pleaded that they did not have anything else, the gang took their car keys and drove it away with other valuables, after removing the CCTV cameras along with DVR. Based on their complaint, the Gummidipoondi police registered a case and found the car abandoned at Pethikuppam flyover.
