Madurai police armed with software to spot mask violators

-

MADURAI: The Madurai City police have come up with an innovative and scientific solution to detect people without face masks and improperly wearing masks to enforce the anti-COVID norms.

As Deepavali is round the corner, there is a greater need to ensure that people, engaging in festival shopping, do not violate the mask rule, Commissioner of Police, Madurai City, Prem Anand Sinha said on Monday.

The police had deployed a software to send an alert to any violator to his or her mobile phone with picture using an android bolstered application. It is linked to the existing CCTV camera network under Thilagar Thidal and Vilakuthoon police limits. This facility would be certainly advantageous for the police, who use this app to book cases based on real time alerts along with the proof.

“By upgrading the existing CCTV network with the help of this software, we intend to monitor mask compliance, book cases on pictorial evidence and thus contribute to the fight against this pandemic,” the Commissioner said.

ADEO distinctions and dimensions private limited in Bengaluru has come up with a video analytics solution for mask compliance. At present the software has deployed 20 CCTV cameras at locations under these two police limits on a trial basis and would be expanded to other parts of the city, especially crowded areas. Further, the Commissioner said plans were on to upgrade this software to monitor criminals too.
