Cong revamp likely as Rao reviews party units

-

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president KS Alagiri could make a bid for revamping some party district units during AICC in-charge of Tamil Nadu Dinesh Gundu Rao’s presence in the state. Rao has camped in the city to review the performance of the various party wings during the next couple of days.

Alagiri, party insiders believe, would persuade Rao to replace a few new district party presidents appointed by his predecessors Su Thirunavukkarasar and EVKS Elangovan. It has been reliably learnt that the TNCC chief who failed to convince the Congress high command earlier would persuade Rao to second his proposal now.

A party source privy to the developments attributed Alagiri’s visit to Bengaluru last week to the party revamp. “Alagiri has proposed possible district president replacements during the Bengaluru visit. He (Rao) has not responded yet. He is camping here till Wednesday to meet various frontal wings of the party. Another round of discussion is expected to happen. But it might not happen during this visit,” a state Congress senior said. “We expected the changes to happen before Deepavali. Now, they don’t have much time for another discussion. So, it could happen immediately after the festival,” the Congress leader added.

Former IAS officer joins Congress Meanwhile, former IAS officer Sashikanth Senthil has joined the Congress party in the presence of AICC in-charge Dinesh Gundu Rao at Sathyamurthy Bhavan on Monday. Senthil quit service last year.
