Stalin writes congratulatory letter to Kamala in Tamil

-

CHENNAI: DMK president MK Stalin on Monday sought to ‘remind’ Kamala Harris, the Vice-President elect of United States of America, of her Tamil roots by writing to her in Tamil.

In his letter to Harris, copy of which he had posted on his Twitter handle, Stalin said, “Apart from being the first woman Vice President of the US, it is a matter of great pride for all Tamils that she hails from Tamil Nadu.”

Stating that the Dravidian movement was founded on the principle of “everything for all” and it had designed schemes to facilitate women’s achievement on a par with men in all spheres and ensure gender parity, Stalin said that her (Kamala) success has given a great deal of confidence to the Dravidian movement. “Your hard work and perspective has demonstrated that a Tamil woman was competent enough to rule America,” Stalin remarked. “I write to you in mother tongue Tamil, a great gift of nature to you and I, hoping that it would and it should gladden you,” said Stalin, justifying his choice of language for the letter.

Adding that ‘your’ (Biden-Harris) tenure would fetch more laurels to America and demonstrate the pride of Tamil heritage to the world, he said the state of Tamil Nadu was eagerly awaiting her visit.

Condemns journalist’s murder Meanwhile, in another statement, Stalin condemned the murder of journalist Moses near Tambaram and demanded stern action against the murderers. Describing the journalist’s murder by anti-social elements as an extension of the government’s choking of media freedom through Arasu Cable TV, Stalin demanded stringent action against the murderers. He said that the protection offered by the ruling AIADMK and the state police to ganja sellers even while turning blind eye to the assault and murder of journalists was a blow to democracy.
