Law student simplifies Indian laws through a website
Afinal-year student at the School of Excellence in Law, Taramani, Aswini Ramesh has been volunteering for various projects for the past four years. During this period, she met a lot of people who wanted to know more about Indian law. She thought a website would be a good option to demystify Indian legal complexities for all and launched a website called Law Rewired. “It is a student-run portal that simplifies laws into easy-to-understand language for everyone. We offer qualitative information on the law and related topics. We are focusing on two sustainable development goals -- quality education and gender equality. Navigating the legal system can be complex and frustrating, so through the website, we are ensuring that the legislation that governs our daily lives is accessible to people from all walks of life. Moreover, while working on various projects during my studies, many got in touch with me asking law questions. There is a pressing problem of legal awareness among people. We are tackling this by explaining laws and legal procedures in jargon-free, simple language so that people have a better understanding of their rights and liberties,” Aswini tells DT Next.
Though she started the plans for the website before the pandemic, the law student could only launch it two months ago. “People have a lot of doubts when it comes to various legal proceedings in our country. Our website has various sections including case analysis. In the case analysis option, we analyse a particular case and put it down in a simple format so that everyone will understand it. We do have academicians and senior lawyers in our advisory board,” she adds.
