AMMK brings in new faces ahead of Assembly polls
CHENNAI: With time running out for next year’s Assembly polls, political parties in TN are busy revamping party set-up at State and district levels. On Wednesday, it was the turn of AMMK to announce changes in party office-bearers.
AMMK general secretary TTV Dhinakaran MLA has announced former minister G Senthamizhan as the party’s deputy general secretary and former AIADMK whip R Manoharan as the party treasurer. A statement from the AMMK headquarters said Manoharan replaces north Chennai AMMK strongman P Vettrivel, who succumbed to COVID-19 last month. Rattled by the death of its treasurer, the party had suspended activities for some time.
The AMMK is also expected to release a new list of district secretaries in the run-up to polls. The post of North Chennai AMMK district secretary is also vacant as the post was held by former MLA Vettrivel. “Senthamizhan will work along with party deputy general secretaries P Palaniappan and M Rengasamy. Former minister C Shanmugavelu will be the new organising secretary,” the AMMK statement said. The AMMK also appointed former MLA and Ranipettai district secretary N G Parthipan as the new election wing secretary. “We are waiting for the release of Chinnamma by Pongal after which the party ranks will swell,” said a senior AMMK functionary.
The ruling AIADMK and the opposition DMK has already revamped several State and district level units. BJP is also on a spree expanding the party units across the State.
