TN beaches to reopen; college to resume for final yr students

No e-registrati­on required for people coming from AP, Pondy and K’taka

CHENNAI: Extending the general lockdown till December 31, the State government on Monday issued a Government Order (GO) announcing that colleges for all final year students and medical courses will reopen from December 7. Besides, beaches, including the Marina, will be opened for public from December 14 and swimming pools will be opened for training purposes only.

“Final year classes for all colleges/ universiti­es including arts, science, technical, engineerin­g, agricultur­e, fisheries, veterinary colleges shall be permitted to function from December 7. Further, hostels for above students shall also be opened,” said Chief Secretary K Shanmugam, in the order.

Easing curbs further, the government also permitted classes for medical and allied colleges, both undergradu­ate and postgradua­te courses, from December 7. However, classes for students admitted for the academic year 2020-21 shall be permitted to function from February 1, next year and hostels for the above college students

shall also be permitted. The government also lifted the ban on tourist places. However, exhibition halls will be opened for business purposes only.

Permission has been granted for conducting religious, social, political and entertainm­ent gatherings with a maximum of 50 per cent of total seating capacity or with 200 persons in closed spaces, from Tuesday. Permission

for meetings shall be obtained from the city Police Commission­er, or from district Collectors in case of other districts. The existing e-registrati­on system will continue to be in force for people travelling to Tamil Nadu from other states, except for Puducherry, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. Relaxation­s will not be applicable to containmen­t zones.
