CHENNAI: A 33-year-old worker, who was involved in erecting metal poles in the median on ECR ahead of Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami’s arrival to visit the flood-affected areas in suburbs was electrocuted as a pole he was holding came in contact with live overhead cables on Monday.

The deceased was identified as Thyagarajan

(33) of Navalur in Chengalpattu district. He is said to have been engaged by AIADMK party cadre to erect the poles with the party flag to welcome the CM. The incident happened around 10 am and Thyagarajan who suffered electric shock since the pole he was holding came in contact with the overhead power cables reportedly died on the spot. Kanathur police sent his body for post-mortem and registered a case.

A woman techie had died after a banner fell on her two-wheeler from the median on Pallavaram-Thoraipakkam radial road in September last year. While she lost balance and fell on the road, she was run over by a tanker.
