Migrant worker kills mobile thief in Tirupur
COIMBATORE: A migrant worker stabbed to death a 35-year-old thief, who along with two others attempted to rob his mobile phone and cash, in Tirupur on Sunday night.
Police said Dinesh Kumar, 22 and his 17-year-old brother-in-law hailing from Uttar Pradesh and working in a textile firm at Thennampalayam on Palladam Road had gone to consume tea near the market late on Sunday night.
“There, three persons snatched away Dinesh’s mobile phone and Rs 2,000 by threatening and also harassed the duo. An infuriated Dinesh Kumar took out a knife, which he had for his safety and stabbed one of the accused Srinivasan, 35, from Namakkal,” police said.
Shocked on seeing the brutal attack, Srinivasan’s two other accomplices ran away from the spot. Police said the deceased, who came to Tirupur a few years ago and was staying along the road side, had been involved in several waylaying incidents. He had come out on bail only recently. A severely injured Srinivasan bled to death on the way to government hospital.
The Tirupur South police have registered a case of murder and arrested Dinesh Kumar. A few days ago, a 25-year-old youth was stabbed to death by a gang of thieves in Coimbatore.
The four-member gang, which killed him after he refused to give away his money, is still at large.
