‘Coldest month in Delhi in 71 years’

NEW DELHI: The month of November was the coldest in the national capital in 71 years, with mean minimum temperatur­e dropping to 10.2 degrees Celsius, according to India Meteorolog­ical Department.

Delhi had recorded a mean minimum temperatur­e of 10.2 degrees Celsius in November 1949. The mean minimum temperatur­e for November was 9.6 degrees Celsius in 1938; nine degrees Celsius in 1931 and 8.9 degrees Celsius in 1930. Last year in November it was 15 degrees Celsius. Delhi also braved four cold waves in November — on the 3rd, 20th, 23rd and 24th. For plains, IMD declares cold wave when the minimum temperatur­e is 10 degrees or below and is 4.5 notches less than normal for two consecutiv­e days.
