Ahead of polls, PM dedicates key infra projects in State
Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled multiple key infrastructure projects in the State during his visit to the poll-bound Tamil Nadu on Thursday.
Modi dedicated the nation, the Neyveli New Thermal Power Project with a generation capacity of 1000 MW, built at Rs 7,800 crore. Modi also dedicated the 709 MW Solar Power Project established over Tirunelveli, Tuticorin, Ramanathapuram and Virudhunagar districts at a cost of over Rs 3,000 crore.
“The 65 per cent of power generated from these new power projects will be given to Tamil Nadu. The basic need of industries to grow is the continuous power supply,” Modi said.
Unveiling the foundation stone for an extension, renovation and modernisation of the Lower Bhavani Project system at an estimated cost of Rs 934 crore under NABARD Infrastructure Development Assistance, Modi said it will irrigate over 2 lakh acres of land and benefit farmers in Tirupur, Erode and Karur districts. Inaugurating the eight laning of Korampallam Bridge and Rail Over Bridge (ROB) at VO Chidambaranar Port, the Prime Minister said that the Centre has identified projects worth Rs 6 lakh crore to be implemented under the Sagarmala scheme between 2015 and 2035 in the country.
The Centre will also make efforts to make the VOC port a big transhipment port on the east coast, he said, adding that when ports are more efficient, it contributes to India being Atmanirbhar and a global hub for trade as well as logistics. “A new multimodal logistics park is going to be launched near Sriperumbudur soon,” he added. Modi also laid the foundation stone for the development of Integrated Command Control Centres (ICCC) in eight smart cities for Rs 82 crores and inaugurated a total of 4,144 tenements in Tirupur, Madurai and Tiruchy at Rs 332 crores, besides widening of the Korampallam Surplus Course beige. Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami, Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam, Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Coal and Mines Pralhad Joshi were present.
