Modi ‘formidable enemy;’ TN craves for a Kamaraj: Rahul
Congress leader and Wayanad MP Rahul Gandhi on the second day of his tour in the southern districts on Sunday said that the state is craving for statesmen like former chief minister K Kamaraj. He also spoke about widening wealth disparities under the BJP rule and alleged large scale unemployment in the state.
Equating Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s rule to the British empire, Rahul during his campaign at St. Xavier’s College in Palayamkottai, Tirunelveli on Sunday said People of this country sent the mighty British empire back and the same way, Modi would also be sent back to Nagpur soon.
“Who is Narendra Modi in comparison to the British empire? Nobody. People of this country sent the British empire back and in the same way we will send Narendra Modi back to Nagpur (RSS headquarters in Maharashtra),” he said.
Terming Modi a “formidable enemy” who ‘crushed’ his opponents, Rahul vowed to send him to political oblivion by following the path of love and non-violence.
In Thoothukudi and Tenkasi, the Congress leader recalled the contribution of former CM Kamaraj. It was Kamaraj, who introduced the mid-day meal scheme to cater to the needs of people, against the wishes of economists of that time. It (the idea) then successfully went to the rest of India. Therefore, Tamil Nadu showed the direction to India. Hence, Tamil Nadu is craving for such great leadership. “He’s a leader (Kamaraj), who listened to and believed in the wisdom of people. A humble leader, who embraced the people and the spirit of this state,” he added.
But, Modi failed to understand the people of Tamil Nadu, which could only be led by a person who bows in front of all people. A person, who believes in the people of Tamil Nadu, cares for them and listens to their pain, could only be a leader of Tamil Nadu, he said further.
Taking a dig at Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami, Rahul said if the CM wanted the votes of people, first thing he should do is to stop bowing and surrendering in front of Modi and start bowing and surrender in front of the people of the state.
Finally, Gandhi said he’s looking forward to the government in Tamil Nadu that could work for the poorest people and added that he’s waiting for Tamil Nadu to reach its full potential and once again show direction to the rest of the country.
