Vax policy no less than demonetisation: Rahul

-

NEW DELHI: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday compared the central government’s vaccine strategy with demonetisation, which according to him, helped industrialists flourish and made common people suffer.

The Congress has termed the COVID vaccine policy as “discriminatory and inequitable”. “The central government’s vaccine strategy is no less than the demonetisation. The common people will stand in queues, will suffer loss of wealth, health and life and in the end only a few big industrialists will benefit,” Gandhi tweeted.

The Centre on Monday announced a liberalised vaccine policy, making all adults above 18 years of age eligible for getting vaccination from May 1. “Disaster of the country, opportunity for friends of Modi. Injustice of the central government,” he said in a tweet using the hashtag “#VaccineDiscrimination” and shared the statement of Serum Institute announcing a price of Rs 400 per vaccine dose to states and Rs 600 to private hospitals.

Abject failure: Priyanka

Slamming the government’s alleged lack of preparedness to deal with the second wave of COVID-19, and terming its vaccine strategy an “abject failure”, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Wednesday said the BJP-led Centre cannot divert blame this time as Jawaharlal Nehru isn’t in charge, but Narendra Modi is and he should be protecting Indians.

Priyanka said constructive suggestions from opposition are being dismissed rather than being accepted in the spirit that the nation is in crisis. “They (government) are wasting time engaging in pettiness, making a minister respond to a letter addressed by a former prime minister who served selflessly to the present Prime Minister, Union Ministers are blaming states for increased oxygen consumption and targeting Opposition governments,” she said.
