Lockdown to be intensified, says TN Health Minister
The decision to intensify lockdown in the state was taken unanimously by all political parties, said Health Minister Ma Subramanian on Thursday.
“In the meeting of legislative party leaders, the decision to intensify lockdown was taken unanimously. A team of all party leaders will also be setup to monitor COVID works and to check whether lockdown is implemented strictly,” said Subramanian, after the meeting of legislative party leaders.
Chief Minister MK Stalin called for a meeting of legislative party leaders and in the meeting, leaders of all the political parties elected to the Assembly attended. During the introductory address, Stalin briefed the steps taken by the state and the incentives awarded to the health workers. He also said that though complete lockdown is imposed people continue to violate the orders and invited recommendations from all the political parties. Subramanian said that all the political parties decided not to hold any meetings till COVID-19 subsides.
When the shortage of Remdesivir was raised, Subramanian said that he had a meeting with Union
Health Minister Harsh Vardhan, through video conferencing on Thursday afternoon and in the meeting the shortage of vaccines was brought to his attention. The Union Minister has replied that as of now Remdesivir production is low and once the production is increased Tamil Nadu will be allotted more.
When asked about patients dying waiting outside government hospitals for oxygen beds, Subramanian replied that private hospitals send patients only after they become critical and so they require oxygen. It is inhumane on the part of private hospitals, added Subramanian.
