New low-pressure area to bring heavy rains today & tomorrow
CHENNAI: A low-pressure area is likely to form over the southwest Bay of Bengal during the next 48 hours bringing heavy rains in several districts of Tamil Nadu, said the Regional Meteorological Center on Monday even as early morning rains in the day left several areas in the city flooded.
“The cyclonic circulation over Southeast Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood extending up to 3.1 km above mean sea level persists. Under its influence, a low-pressure area is likely to form over the southwest Bay of Bengal during the next 48 hours. And it is likely to move westnorthwestwards and cross Sri Lanka and south Tamil Nadu,” said N Puviarasan, Director, Area Cyclone Warning Centre, Regional Meteorological Center (RMC), Chennai.
Heavy rains with thunderstorm activity are expected to receive over Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Kanniyakumari, Madurai, and Ramanathapuram districts, and the rest of the State to experience moderate rains for the next two days.
The weather officials predicted heavy to very heavy rains at isolated places over districts of coastal Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal area on November 25 and 26. Also, till Friday, thunderstorm warnings are issued to isolated places in TN.
As far as Chennai is concerned, the sky condition is likely to be generally cloudy; thunderstorm with light to moderate showers is likely to occur in some areas for the next 48 days. The maximum and minimum temperatures will be around 30.1 and 24.1 degrees Celsius respectively.
According to RMC, Chennai-Nungambakkam received 17.4 mm of rainfall, Taramani 11.5 mm, Meenambakkam and MRC Nagar 9 mm, YMCA Nanadanam 9.5, and Chennai airport 8.2 mm on Monday.
As far as Chennai is concerned, the sky condition is likely to be generally cloudy; thunderstorm with light to moderate showers
