The announcement comes hours after the party leaders OPS and EPS chaired the district secretaries meet to discuss the issues related to urban local body polls and the challenges posed by the ousted AIADMK leader VK Sasikala.
According to confidential sources, there were exchanges of heated words while discussing Sasikala who claims herself to be the party general secretary. However, the seniors pacified the state leaders who had a difference of opinions related to Sasikala. “Several key posts are lying vacant. After the demise of party presidium chairman E Madusudhanan the top post is also vacant and the internal polls are likely to be held in December, a senior AIADMK functionary told DT Next.
The party headquarters also witnessed tension for some time after a section of cadre raised slogans seeking the removal of party urban local body secretaries in Chengalpattu district. The cadres also squatted in the party office protesting against the recent appointment of Lathur union secretary. However, party seniors intervened and pacified them.
Addressing reporters, party spokesperson D Jayakumar said that the meeting was amicable and there was no tension or exchange of any contradictory ideas within the party members. There is no scope for media to interpret or blow an issue out of proportion, Jayakumar said.
Earlier in the day, the Leader of the Opposition EPS in a statement alleged that the state government had delayed the procurement process related to the distribution of free saree and dhoti scheme issued for all ration card holders during Pongal festival. There is a shortage of production of free saree and dhotis as the state had delayed the orders to handloom weavers, EPS said.
Similarly, AIADMK coordinator OPS in a statement also urged the DMK government to address the issues related to transport corporations and said that the buses were old and were lacking maintenance due to growing debts of state-run transport corporations.
