College principal faces DVAC probe for amassing Rs 2.91 crore illegal wealth
The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption has started a probe against O Ravi, the principal of Pasumpon Muthuramalinga Thevar College in Usilampatti, who was the Controller of Examination of Madurai Kamaraj University, and his wife Sumathi for allegedly amassing illegal wealth worth more than Rs 2.9 crore. Ravi, who joined government service in 1992 as an assistant professor at Pasumpon Muthuramalinga Thevar College, was the Examination Controller of the university till November 2020, before being appointed as the principal of the college. The FIR said Ravi, a native of Chellampatty village in Madurai, hailed from a middle class family. Between July 1, 2013, and June 30, 2020, by virtue of his official position at Pasumpon Muthuramalinga Thevar College and as Controller of Examinations, he enriched himself illicitly and was in possession of pecuniary resources and assets in his name and in the name of his wife Sumathi, a homemaker, daughter and his son-in-law, which is disproportionate to the known sources of his income. The agency estimated the value of the wealth at Rs 2.91 crore, and slapped a case against Ravi and his wide under the provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
