Germany demolishes Italy 5-2

-

Germany demolished Italy 5-2 on Tuesday with a sparkling display of attacking football for its first Nations League win this edition, snapping a four-match winless run and stretching its unbeaten streak under head coach Hansi Flick.

In Germany’s best performance under Flick, Timo Werner (68’ & 69’) struck twice after goals from Joshua Kimmich (10’), Ilkay Gundogan (45’) and Thomas Muller (51’) had put the team in the driving seat. Teenager Wilfried Gnonto pulled one back in the 78th minute while Alessandro Bastoni (90’) headed in a second goal for the visitor in stoppage time.

This was Germany’s first Nations League win in four matches, extending Flick’s unbeaten run to 13 games since he took over last year.

Hungary crushes England 4-0

Hungary humiliated England 4-0 in Wolverhampton, handing the host its worst home defeat for 94 years. With the demoralising loss, England remains winless in the Nations League.

Roland Sallai began the rout as he controlled the ball on his knee after a miscued header from John Stones, drilling past

Aaron Ramsdale in the 16th minute. Sallai netted a second in the 70th minute with a perfect finish with the outside of his boot after England midfielder Kalvin Phillips lost a tackle. Zsolt Nagy (80’) chipped Ramsdale while Daniel Gazdag (89’) drove from distance into the corner to heap more pain on England.

Netherlands edges out Wales

Noa Lang scored his first international goal while Memphis Depay got a last-gasp winner as the Netherlands secured a dramatic 3-2 victory over Wales in Rotterdam.

Cody Gakpo (23’) added a second goal for the home side after Lang (17’) had opened the scoring, but Brennan Johnson (26’) pulled one back for the tourist. That was the way it stayed until Gareth Bale (90’) converted a stoppage-time penalty, which looked to have earned a point for the Welsh. However, Depay (90’) still had time to score the winner.
