3 medical colleges row: CPI to protest
CHENNAI: The CPI has announced that it would be holding protests in Chennai, Tiruchy and Dharmapuri against the Centre’s decision to de- recognise three government medical colleges and barring admission.
According to the resolution adopted at the party’s state council meeting, Government Stanley Medical College Hospital in Chennai, KAP Viswanathan Government Medical College in Tiruchy and Government Dharmapuri Medical College and Hospital were penalised for deficiencies in Aadhaarbased biometric attendance and footage of cameras installed in these colleges.
“The Tamil Nadu Directorate of Medical Education has given an appropriate explanation to the Medical Council of India. And the simple truth is that these are not about the quality of teaching in the medical college or about any major malpractices that cannot be fixed,” the party said.
In view of these, the National Board of Medical Education has taken severe action of revoking the accreditation of the three colleges. CPI strongly condemns this unfair practice and points out that de-recognition of the colleges on the grounds of petty grievances is intended to take away the right to medical education in the state,” the resolution said.
The CPI said that the Union government is working to destabilise non-BJP state governments. “We can see de-accreditation of three Government Medical Colleges in Tamil Nadu which have achieved many laurels in the field of medicine and have excellent infrastructure facilities as part of it. Due to this, it will not be possible to admit students this year,” it said, urging the state government to take appropriate action in this regard.
