AIADMK stages statewide stir against govt over hooch tragedy
CHENNAI/COIMBATORE: The opposition AIADMK on Monday organised a statewide protest against the DMK government over the hooch tragedy and the prevailing law and order situation.
Former ministers and senior leaders headed the protest in the district headquarters across the state. It was following the protest led by party general secretary and leader of opposition Edappadi K Palaniswami in Chennai on May 22.
Spearheading a protest in Pollachi, former minister SP Velumani said Chief Minister MK Stalin should step down from his post owning responsibility for the hooch tragedy.
Hailing AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami as people’s chief minister, Velumani said the AIADMK introduced 7.5 per cent internal reservation to facilitate government school students to join medical colleges. “Now, the recognition of three medical colleges has been cancelled due to inefficiency of the state health department. If this is the scenario, how will the DMK cancel the NEET exam,” he asked.
AIADMK MLA Pollachi V Jayaraman said liquor is sold round the clock illegally. “If liquor outlets are not closed on time, the AIADMK will not remain silent and will teach a fitting lesson,” he said.
Meanwhile, EPS, in a statement, thanked the senior party leaders and district secretaries for organising the protest in all district headquarters to draw the attention of the people on DMK government’s false poll promises, hooch tragedy that claimed the lives of over 20 people, corruption and degradation of law and order.
Pointing out to the audio clips attributed to Minister Palanivel Thiaga Rajan, exposing alleged corruption to the tune of Rs 30,000 crore by Chief Minister MK Stalin’s son Udhayanidhi Stalin and son-in-law Sabeerasan, EPS demand the CM to resign on moral ground.
“The voice of the AIADMK party against the incompetent DMK government echoed across the state today,” said EPS and added that it received an overwhelming response from the public.
In Gobichettipalayam in Erode, former minister KA Sengottaiyan, who led the protest, said the law and order deteriorated in the state, whenever DMK comes to power.
