Free training given in drone tech to 500 women farmers
CHENNAI: Over 500 women have been given free drone training, and 446 agricultural drones were distributed through comprehensive training programmes in drone technology across 20 states.
Organised by drone manufacturer Garuda Aerospace as a part of International Women’s Day, these programmes have not only equipped them with essential skills but have also fostered an environment where they can thrive in the traditionally male-dominated fields.
The company recognises the potential of women in aviation, training initiatives, and contributions, particularly in initiatives like the Namo Drone Didi Yojana in promoting gender equality and economic empowerment in rural communities. Over 20 states have been positively impacted by the distribution of over 446 drones to women’s Self Help Groups (SHGs), enabling them to become key players in agricultural innovation and sustainability.
The SHGs were trained to use the drones for spraying pesticides and water. The drones were provided to only those women registered with the SHGs in the rural areas. Women who completed Class 10, and were between 19 and 65 years of age, attended the training. Those who are trained in this will be able to handle other kinds of drones as well.
“We believe in the power of women to drive change and innovation in the aviation industry,” said Agnishwar Jayaprakash, founder-CEO, Garuda Aerospace. “Through our initiatives in drone technology, we’re not merely empowering women farmers, we’re also reshaping the landscape of drone tech in agriculture. By providing comprehensive training, resources, and opportunities, we’re breaking barriers and creating a future where gender equality and inclusion are the cornerstones of success.”
