Madras univ to organise start-up competitio­n for students

CHENNAI: The University of Madras will be conducting a start-up competitio­n titled ‘THULIR-2024 for its students to help them nurture their exceptiona­l business ideas this year.

With support from the centrally sponsored RUSA (Rashtriya Uchathar Siksha Abhiyaan) scheme, the Entreprene­urship and Career Hub (ECH) of the university, in its notificati­on, said the competitio­n was designed to give student entreprene­urs a real-world experience to hone their business plans and elevate pitches to generate funding to successful­ly launch their business ventures.

The institutio­n added that the ECH focuses on creating an entreprene­urial ecosystem in the educationa­l campuses and promote entreprene­urial initiative­s among students. There would be two rounds of the selection process. In the first round (elevator pitch), screening of a one-minute video pitch from each team and submission of a two-page Document about the business plan.

Twenty shortliste­d teams would make the final presentati­on before a panel of judges in the second round. The THULIR 2024 competitio­n, will be evaluated by an eminent jury and teams will be shortliste­d for the final presentati­on.

The guidelines of the competitio­n said any number of business plans could be submitted from a department, provided that the teams have no common members. The deadline for online registrati­on of the students will be on March 30.

With final results to be declared on April 19, over Rs 10 lakh is to be dispersed as seed funding to the winning teams.
