The Goat Life collects Rs 50 cr worldwide
On Sunday, the makers of Prithviraj Sukumaran’s survival drama, The Goat Life, announced that the film has collected over Rs 50 crore in worldwide gross collections. Prithviraj, who is also distributing the film in Malayalam through Prithviraj Productions, posted the box office update on his official X page.
The Malayalam film follows the real-life story of Najeeb (Prithviraj), a Malayali immigrant labourer, who finds himself forced into slavery as a goatherd in the secluded farm of Saudi Arabia. Directed by Blessy, the movie is based on the 2008 best-selling novel,
Aadujeevitham, by Benyamin. The film hit the screens on Friday.
Earlier, in an interview with DT Next, the actor said,
“Aadujeevitham has recorded true life of a man named Najeeb. We need to stay true to the novel and what Najeeb went through. The magnanimity of the story lies the sufferings and the emotions behind it. Everything else is just a backdrop of the emotional landscape this character travels. The spectacle not only lies in the making but in the conviction with which we have made this film. We had to wait for 10 years– from 2008 to 2018 for Malayalam cinema to evolve as we had to pull this off in such a huge scale. It has helped us achieve the business propositions we wanted to. It would have been impossible to do this 15 years ago.”
Academy Award winners A R Rahman and Resul Pookutty have given music and sound design, respectively. Recently, ARR spoke to us about scoring music for The Goat Life. He states, “This is one project where, Music seriya illana padamum nalla ilaama poidum (If the music falters, the film too would). With this film, I have scored music as a counter for characters’ emotion. If the character cries, the music will not be following the same emotion. I needed to understand the emotions. So when he cried, I countered it by embracing Najeeb.”
Produced by Visual Romance, The Goat Life also features Amala Paul, KR Gokul, as well as Hollywood actor Jimmy Jean-Louis and Arab actors Talib al Balushi and RikAby in pivotal roles.
