PM’s roadshow: Traffic curbs in city today
Movement of vehicles strictly prohibited from 3 pm on Thyagaraya Road: Greater Chennai Traffic Police
CHENNAI: In view of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s election roadshow on Tuesday at Thyagaraya Road, Greater Chennai Traffic Police (GCTP) has announced traffic diversions.
As per the notification, there will be a traffic slowdown on the GST Road, Mount Poonamallee Road, CIPET junction, 100 feet road, Anna Salai, SV Patel Road, Gandhi Mandapam Road, and around T Nagar from 3 pm to 10 pm.
The PM is expected to reach Chennai Airport around 6.05 pm on Tuesday in an IAF aircraft. From the airport, the Prime Minister will reach the starting point of the roadshow event by road. The roadshow is expected to start by 6.30 pm and end by 7.30 pm and the PM is expected to go on a 2 km roadshow from
Panagal Park to Teynampet. Political leaders, party people, and the general public are expected to witness the roadshow. After the roadshow, the Prime Minister is expected to reach Raj Bhavan by 7.55 pm where he will be retiring for the night. Thyagaraya Road will be declared a sterile zone and movement of vehicles will be strictly prohibited from 3 pm, three and half hours ahead of the beginning of the roadshow. Thyagaraya Road, Venkata Narayana Road, and GN Chetty Road, North Boag Road have been declared as no parking zones until the completion of the roadshow.
Commercial vehicles will be restricted from 2 pm to 9 pm intermittently on Pallavaram GST Road towards Kathipara, Mount Poonamallee Road towards Anna Salai, CIPET towards Anna Salai, Vadapalani towards T Nagar and Valluvar Kottam, Kathipara flyover to Saidapet, CPT towards airport and Gandhi Mandapam, Tidel park to Gandhi Mandapam, Anna Statue towards mount road.
In addition, the Greater Chennai Police (GCP) has banned flying drones and other Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs). Apart from this, the Commissioner also prohibited flash laser beam lights, the release of hot air balloons/tethered balloons and light-emitting objects, and flying gliders around the airspace near Chennai for a period of 60 days --up to June 1.
City police are expected to fortify T Nagar and teams have been assigned to inspect business establishments in the neighbourhood and ingress and egress points for visitors are being earmarked. The police teams have inspected the Star hotels and lodges in the neighbourhood and issued an advisory to the management in order to ensure that all documents are collected before guests check in to their rooms.
