EPS-led AIADMK won’t exist after polls, TTV will take reins: Annamalai
MADURAI: The Edappadi K Palaniswami-led AIADMK will not exist in politics after June 4 when the results of the Lok Sabha elections are declared, and the party will be in the hands of its ‘true’ leader TTV Dhinakaran, said State BJP president K Annamalai on Saturday.
Campaigning for Dhinakaran at Bangalamedu in Theni, Annamalai said Palaniswami was running the AIADMK only for the sake of contractors, most of whom have been fielded in the general elections. On the other hand, Dhinakaran is a hard worker, and above all a good leader, he said.
The cadres of both AIADMK and its splinter party AMMK – which Dhinakaran launched after being expelled from the parent party – are aware of who the real leader was who can guide them. Knowing that Dhinakaran has a chance to win the election, the leaders of both AIADMK and the DMK have joined hands to defeat him even as they are staging a drama as if they are opposing each other.
But the AIADMK cadres are thinking differently, as they wanted to unite with the AMMK to bring victory to Dhinakaran, he said.
Taking on the ruling DMK, Annamalai alleged that its government betrayed the people of Theni by remaining silent when the storage level in the Mullaiperiyar dam, the lifeline of farmers in southern districts, was reduced to 136 feet by the Congress-ruled Kerala, despite Supreme Court order to increase its level up to 152 feet.
Even when the Kerala government announced the construction of a dam at Periyar Tiger Reserve with the intent to stop the flow of water to Tamil Nadu from the Mullaiperiyar dam, the DMK did not react, he charged.
