Twelve booked for selling IPL tickets in black

CHENNAI: City Police booked twelve persons who were caught selling Indian Premier League (IPL) match tickets near MA Chidambara­m Stadium in Chepauk at exorbitant prices for the Chennai Super Kings- Sunrisers Hyderabad match held on Sunday.

Police seized 26 tickets worth Rs 72,242 from those arrested.

As per the orders of City Police Commission­er Sandeep Rai Rathore, police teams led by Inspectors of police were engaged in intensive surveillan­ce and monitoring to arrest those who illegally sell tickets for the IPL cricket match on the black market. After monitoring areas like Pattabiram Gate, Wallajah Road, Bells Road, Wallaja Road Junction, Victoria Hostel Road Junction, and Chepauk Railway Station, the police rounded up twelve persons who were selling match tickets at exorbitant prices. They were later let off on station bail.

Six arrested for gambling during IPL match

Six persons were arrested by the City Police for online gambling during the recent IPL match between Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad. The police said that they had received a tip-off about the betting activity and a vigil was mounted at a mobile phone accessorie­s shop on Perumal Mudali Street during the match.

After investigat­ions, the police arrested Y Sandeep (33), T Kathes (32), P Rajesh Kumar (33), and T Thiraj (41) and seized Rs 14,000 cash and four cell phones from them. Based on their inputs, Police arrested S Ankit Jain (32) and P Jitender (44) of Sowcarpet on Monday and seized Rs 6,250 cash from them.

Esplanade Police registered a case and are investigat­ing further. Commission­er Sandeep Rai Rathore had issued directions to Inspectors of Police to monitor and arrest buyers, and sellers of banned lottery tickets and illegal gambling in the city of Chennai.
