Erode again; screens displaying strongroom go blank for 2 hours
COIMBATORE: A day after a CCTV developed a glitch in Government College of Engineering, where EVMs collected from across Erode Lok Sabha Constituency are kept, display screens showing the camera recordings went blank on Tuesday.
Around 7 am, the screens showing the footage of the strongroom of Kumarapalayam constituency and its corridors went blank in the control room at the administrative block triggering some tense moments. On receiving information, M Sathish Kumar, Assistant Returning Officer and Revenue Divisional Officer, Erode, inspected and found the cameras to be functional as another screen kept before the strongroom showed the footage.
It was then found that the wire connecting the control room got disconnected resulting in screens to black out. The issue was rectified within 2 hours and the screens began to show the footage from 9 am.
This is the second incident of malfunctioning as on Sunday
night one of the CCTVs fixed near the strongroom, where EVMs from Erode West Assembly constituency was kept had gone defunct around midnight. It was rectified within an hour.
Of the total 221 CCTVs installed, 48 cameras are fixed facing strongrooms and covering the corridor, while the remaining 173 cameras were kept around the college premises.

Explanation sought from contractor engaged in fixing and maintaining the camera network on frequent malfunctioning
Officer and Collector Raja Gopal Sunkara issued a notice to the contractor engaged in fixing and maintaining the camera network system seeking an explanation on frequent incidents of malfunction. He also sought for an examination of the entire network system and to ensure similar incidents of malfunctioning doesn’t happen again.
